BUILD YOUR EDGE
FAQs
Thinking of joining our virtual bootcamps?
Read through our frequently asked questions for more information.
Is the program virtual or in person?
The Build Your Edge program tracks are virtual (via Zoom). Puzzlers who register for our cohorts will receive calendar invitations with Zoom links for each day / time their modules will be held.
Which track should I choose - Piece by Piece or the Fast Track?
In general, the Piece by Piece track is for puzzlers who are relatively new to speed puzzling or puzzlers who want to revisit and solidify their foundational speed puzzling skills before diving into advanced strategies and techniques.
If you are consistently solving 500 piece puzzles in under 90 minutes and you've participated in several speed puzzling competitions in the past, you may want to consider The Fast Track, where we'll dive into the advanced strategies and techniques we use in competitions!
Who are the facilitators?
We have an excellent roster of Canadian facilitators and guest speakers for our inaugural cohorts, including podium finishers at Canadian Nationals, previous World Jigsaw Puzzle Championships participants, and incredible puzzle aficionados, including:
Allison Elgersma @allisondoespuzzles
Catie Dulude Sicard @blackcatpuzzles
Danielle Engleson @danibam54
Devon Donaldson @devonspuzzled
Lizabeth Stanley @puzzlizzie
Sophie Helg @sopieceful
How much do the Build Your Edge tracks cost?
To celebrate the start of this first-ever Canadian speed puzzling bootcamp, we are offering all cohorts at a special launch price, which includes shipping. Pricing will be listed on the registration page once it opens.
How many puzzles will I receive as part of the program?
The Piece by Piece track includes one small warm up puzzle and one 300-piece competition puzzle.
The Fast Track includes one 250-piece puzzle for Puzzle Poulet, and one 500-piece competition puzzle.
The brands we are using will remain a secret until we open the puzzles together on the Zoom calls, but we will share one clue with you in advance - our competition puzzles are from Canadian brands!
At what times and how long are the modules?
The days and start times for each cohort will be consistent across all modules. The length of the module will vary - refer to the program overview page for details.
How interactive are the modules?
Hands-on practice and dialogue are the cornerstones of our program. While the facilitators will spend some time talking about topics relevant to a given module, we plan dedicated time for skills drills, warmups, the built-in competitions, and for discussion. Do plan to participate in the conversation!
Is the program open to puzzlers outside of Canada?
The inaugural May / June 2025 cohorts of our program are open to Canadian residents only. We are looking for the right opportunities for international puzzlers to join us for virtual events at a later date.
Is Build Your Edge offered in French?
The May / June 2025 cohorts are available in English, however French-language offerings of the Build Your Edge program are certainly on our roadmap!
Can I sign up for both tracks?
We do not recommend signing up for both Piece by Piece and the Fast Track. These tracks have been designed with different learning and skill development needs in mind, so we ask that you choose the one that's right for you at the moment.
Should I open the puzzles when I receive them?
No. We expect our participants to adhere to the Puzzler Honour Code of leaving virtual competition puzzles in the box or bag as requested until we open them together on the competition Zoom call. No peeking, please!
Is this program affiliated with any puzzle organizations?
Canadian Speed Puzzlers is a separate and distinct organization whose mission aligns with and complements many puzzle organizations from around the world - to elevate performance puzzling by inspiring excellence, showcasing Canadian talent, and welcoming puzzlers of every pace.
If I am interested in joining the program but the May / June dates for my preferred track don't work for me, can I get on a mailing list to be notified about future cohorts?
You bet! Fill out this form to join the mailing list for future event notifications and other Canadian Speed Puzzlers updates.
What if I can't make it to one of the modules?
We ask that you block your calendar for ALL the module dates when you register for a cohort, or you join our mailing list to be notified of future program date announcements.
We do understand that life happens, and if you have to unexpectedly miss a module, please let us know and we'll see if there's anything we can do to help. Email us at info@canadianspeedpuzzlers.ca.
I bought a spot in the program, and can no longer attend. Can I get a refund?
If it has been less than 72 hours since you registered AND we have not yet shipped out your puzzles, contact us at info@canadianspeedpuzzlers.ca for a full refund. We cannot provide refunds otherwise.
If you already have your puzzles (or they're in transit), and your cohort hasn't begun yet, and you would like to transfer your spot to another puzzler, that is a great idea! You will need to ensure they can get the puzzles from you, and let us know the name and contact information of the new participant so we can get them the right Zoom links and additional information.
Can my friend or family member join me on the Zoom call?
If you want to attend the program with another registered participant (e.g., joining the Zoom call in the same room on the same laptop) that is certainly fine with us for the modules that are NOT competitions.
For modules that include a competition, we require each registered participant to log into Zoom on a separate device.
We do not permit observers who are not registered participants. Cats and dogs joining us, however, is not only ok, it's encouraged!
Will the modules be recorded? Can I watch them later?
Yes, we will be recording the modules for course auditing, enhancements, and socialization purposes. We are looking to provide participants with access to their respective cohort's recordings - stay tuned for more on this.
If I take this program, can you guarantee I will become a faster puzzler?
There are no guarantees in life, unfortunately. However, the entire premise of our Build Your Edge program is that speed puzzling is a skill that can be learned! So, while we cannot guarantee you will end up super speedy as a result of signing up for one of our cohorts, we do encourage you to fully participate and see what gains our coaching, drills, and fun challenges can bring to your personal best!
What if I don't finish the puzzle in the given time during the competition module?
It's possible that some participants will not finish the competition puzzle in the designated time - don't worry, it happens! Prior to the competition, we will provide instructions on what do to in this scenario.
What supplies or setup will I need in order to participate in the program?
We will send registered participants a list of suggested supplies and recommendations on setting up the space they'll be in when attending the virtual modules - in general:
Have a few puzzles on hand to use in practice drills
Have a timer available - cell phone timers are perfectly fine
Make sure your puzzling area is relatively well-lit
Double-check that your computer or tablet (whatever you'll use to join the Zoom call) has a working camera and audio
Make sure your puzzling table has at least 20" by 30" of space for the finished competition puzzles - we aren't telling you the actual puzzle dimensions because the puzzle detectives among you will be able to figure out the brands we're using with that information!
When will the next cohorts be offered?
The Build Your Edge facilitators are eager to help as many puzzlers build their skills as we possibly can! After the inaugural cohorts, we will revisit demand and timing, enhance the tracks where needed, and let you know when the next round will be.
This could be as soon as August / Early September in the lead up to the World Jigsaw Puzzle Championships.
Will there ever be in-person modules or events?
Yes! We are working on plans for exciting in-person events over the next year and beyond!
When and from where will the puzzles be shipped?
The puzzles will be shipped out in batches as registration fills up. We will be shipping from Toronto, Ontario.
Does the price include tax?
We are not charging tax at this time.
How do I log into Zoom?
Instructions on how to access a Zoom meeting are available on the Zoom website.
